In locations all over the world, Red Bull Access All Areas’ makes its mission “To boldly skate where no-one has skated before”: This year the event is being held in South America for the first time. Following a spectacle on campus at Vienna University, local freestyling explorers in Medellín, Columbia, investigated the Parque de los Deseos. The most bizarre encounter of two worlds, however, is probably going to take place in Caracas
Red Bull Access All Areas makes it possible for local skaters to skate where they’ve secretly always wanted to – even though, or perhaps for the very reason, sliding and grinding in these areas is accompanied by rather unpleasant consequences. Exclusively for Red Bull Access All Areas, out-of-bounds locations become skateparks for a limited time. Places from which skaters under normal circumstances might be led off in handcuffs or as possible organ donors. Examples include the Starlight Express stage in Bochum, Germany, or the busy Semmering freeway in Austria.
In forbidden areas
The location chosen by Caracas participants of Red Bull Access All Areas for their trick session may well be one where style and fluid moves are appreciated in the every day. However it probably wouldn’t be wrong to say that the offering of ollies and wallrides, nosegrinds and McTwists wouldn’t normally draw its usual spectators – and baggy pants and such are generally rejected. Taking place on November 18 in “Saxo,” one of the leading strip clubs in Caracas, the Flat Skate Battle will probably be one of the highlights of the Red Bull Access All Areas series.
Looking for new location ideas
This year, before Caracas, Red Bull Access All Areas already created a stir in Vienna and Medellín. In Vienna tricking was allowed on the university campus; and in Medellín at the Parque de los Deseos. These events allow selected representatives from the local skating communities to skate their stuff. And on the official website www.redbullaccessallareas.com, any and all skaters worldwide have the chance to significantly influence the project: suggestions for new spots for future Red Bull Access All Areas expeditions are continually being accepted.
