Life of Ryan, next chapter
At the Toyota Challenge in Salt Lake City Ryan Sheckler as well as Shaun White secured overall titles in the AST Dew Tour 2007 – and their position as idols for all 8 to 18-year-olds with low-hanging pants.
“Ryyyyyan! Ryyyyyyyan!” It wasn’t only the FMX participants’ motors that made a lot of noise at the fourth stop of the AST Dew Tour. It was also the fans of the MTV show “Life of Ryan,” who cheered its protagonist Ryan Sheckler’s every move as if he were a pop star – which admittedly even the 17-year-old’s rivals had to concede: Ryan earned every single decibel.
Shaky beginning, strong finish
Ryan’s third Dew Tour victory this year – four contests have already been held, one more to go – were hard fought: After two falls in the first two runs he had to work his way up from third place and dig deep into his box of tricks. Among other things he showed a kickflip to frontside boardslide and a frontside salad grind in the first jam session as well as a gap ollie to backside smith grind, a monstrous 360 kickflip over the gap and a no less mighty bluntslide in the finals. The prize: 87.58 points, the day- and overall victory in the Skate Park contest.
Shaun White also clinches overall victory
In the Skate Vert contest Shaun White’s third place was enough to win the overall table in the AST Dew Tour 2007. For the final event in Orlando mid-October he has the just over the margin yet still absolutely tightly stitched safety net of 101 points. Red Bull X-Fighters winner Nate Adams is also already a certainty as overall winner. He won in Salt Lake City and, like Sheckler, has won three of four events to date.
